Abstract   As prognostic indicators of breast carcinoma, axillary lymph nodal status, tumor size, hormone receptor status and nuclear grade have been identified. Their correlation with c-erbB-2 protein overexpression has been controversial. Paraffin-embedded tumor sections, availabe from 48 breast carcinomas, were stained with c-erbB-2 specific antibody. The correlation between strong positive staining and prognostic indicators was anlyzed. 31% (15 of 48) of the tumors were stained strong positively. There was a statistically significant correlation between c-ernB-2 protein overexpression and positive nodal status or staging (p<0.05). In conclusion, the immuno-histochemical staining of c-erbB-2 protein might be used as a versatile tool predicting the prognasis in breast carcinoma.
